In Settings, the recommended resolution is 1280 x 1024. But that's too small for me.
So I set it to 1024 x 768. The size is good, but the fonts look a tiny bit condensed vertically, which makes sense because the top 1/3" of the screen is not being used. It's black.
Windows 8 explains that something like this can happen if you don't use the recommended resolution. But here's my question:
Why is this happening with my new Windows 8/Lenovo configuration, but it didn't happen with my XP/Dell configuration?
Is it something new with Windows 8? Is there a way around it?
Thanks, Peter
P.S.
I tried using the recommended resolution and the Settings feature which makes the image 125%. That works fine for Internet Explorer, but it's not affecting my Thunderbird e-mail program. So it doesn't work for everything as the feature description seems to imply.
If there is no easy solution, I guess I'll have to buy a bigger monitor. Stronger reading glasses require that I sit ridiculously close to the screen.
