Trouble booting to desktop

Hi, I am wanting to boot a computer straight to the desktop instead of the new tile layout. I googled it and found two options:
1. Create a new scheduled task to run every time i log in that runs a specific file from <http://www.7tutorials.com/how-boot-desktop-windows-8-skip-start-screen>
2. Right click on the task bar and go into properties then into the navigation tab and select an option there.

I would really like to be able to use option 2 because it is a feature built into Windows and I much prefer to use those rather than download something and make that run every time I boot. However, when I go into properties I only have three tabs: task bar, jump lists and toolbars. According to the solutions I have found there should be a tab there named navigation, but it isn't there when I go into properties! Is there a reason this Navigation tab isn't coming up for me in the properties? Is there another way to access this INBUILT option to boot to the start screen? Or is my only option to use one of those files downloaded from sites like the one listed above?
