Move from Windows 8 Mail to Thunderbird

I do not want to use the built in Windows 8 Mail app but that is what I am currently using. I would like to use Thunderbird so I downloaded that but when I go to the import option within Thunderbird, Windows 8 Mail doesn't come up as an option to import from. How can I move all of my mail messages (and the account settings) from Windows 8 Mail to Thunderbird? It is a POP account so I can't just log in and redownload them. I only have one email account.

I would also like to import all of my contacts from the built in Windows app into Thunderbird. How can I do this?
