Getting lost in different "MS users?"

This morning I rebooted my computer. I have done this several times in the last few months when spyware says I needed to. Most of My Icons were missing as well as my pictures and word files. I found them under another user name. Is there a way I can get it to keep using the same MS user name?

Let me explain the background that likely plays a confounding role (at least to me).
1. 9 months ago my system board went out on a 7 year old computer using Windows 7. Purchased as New HP desktop with Windows 8. Used windows transfer utility. I kept the "user" the new set up gave me and knew how to find old files and programs if needed. 4 months ago my "user file" became corrupted and MS required that I set up another one. In the meantime, working and not having time to figure out what was happening, it created about 10 temp user files. I finally got a new user file set up and transferred many files and programs to the new user profile using MS instructions. I have rebooted several times and it had seemed to keep going back to the same user profile as my documents and pictures always seemed to be there.
2. Today when I rebooted as recommended per spyware, it must have rebooted me into a different user profile as my most recent word doc files that I had been using and the pictures are not in "Documents and Pictures." I am also having to reset up several other program such as MS Outlook, My printer, re-choose the start menu, and probably more. Why this happened now I don't know. As far as I know window 8.1 has not installed on my computer but 2 weeks ago I gave it permission to download. I checked it is still Windows 8 vers 6.
3. I do not know for sure what user profile I have been using the last several months. I also do not know which one I started with this AM.
4. I signed in as ordinary. It listed the new user profile I had created 4 months ago and I used my regular password but it did not take me to my ordinary account. I am the only user of this computer so I am the official administrator of it. So I am confused.

5. Let me list the temp files that I think might help (leaving out the ones that lasted a day or two).
1. Default
2. James
3. James.C1031871-A (Which was the new one I chose when I had to create a new user profile and it does have my most recent doc and picture files.
4. JamesOld (Contains the files transferred from the old computer. I Ieft them there and access them as needed only.
5. Public
6 Temp
Then there are 15 Temp files( from 1 to 14) that were there for a day or two.
7. UpdatusUser
8. UpdatusUser.C1031871-A (I don't remember seeing this one before.)
9. User

Thanks for any and all help that you can give. I don't want to keep reinstalling programs all the time.
Jim Harding :)
