Script error

I am running a HP laptop with Windows 8 and Google Chrome Browser.
I occasionally get the following error message:

if not, it says

Stop Running This Script?
A script on this page is causing your browser to run slowly.
If it continues to run, your computer might
become unresponsive.

So far this has only been annoying, but it continues to pop up, and I was wondering if I need to do something to take care of it. I tried to search this error message, and only found references to IE. I only use Chrome, but do have IE on my machine because there are a few web sites that insist on people using IE. (in particular the site my employer uses for its CE, which I have not choice but to use). But that is beside the point.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
