Solved: Resolution changes

A quick question..... I have been setting up my new HP including screen resolution, icon size, etc(1280 x 1024 with small icons) but when I restart or log off & sign back in the display changes back to older setting (1024 x 768). However the Graphic control panel still reflects 1280 x 1024. I have reset several times and saved. Am I missing something??? This is my first experience win win 8
