Zip files no longer download as zip

System details below the details of my issue

I'm not sure exactly what happened. I have windows 8.1, and I have it set up so that I can use is pretty as I did my windows 7, with a desktop.
I'm lost with the windows 8 'desktop' tiles style.
So I'll ask for directions, if possible, based on accessing things from my 'desktop' instead.

I went to open an unzipped file in my Paint shop pro 7 program. It was a tube file (.psp or .jsl or .pfr. or .tub, most likely the first or the later of those) I downloaded as a zip previous to this issue. Anyways it said it was not a file my psp could open. So I right-clicked it and said open with Paint instead, that usually works and then I can save it as a .gif or .jpeg and open in PSP.

Well, when I said open with, instead it somehow converted ALL my downloaded zip files on my computer to "paint" files, and any zip I try to download now is created as a 'paint' file. Of course this makes it a file I cannot access since it was a zip and not a paint file to begin with. All i can think is that I somehow inadvertently set my computer to use Paint as default for 'unzipping' zipped files.

Image A:
When I click on the .tub file to download it as a zip, this is the screen that comes up. I say save, so it goes to my download folder in Mozilla firefox.

Image B:
When I go to my download folder, instead of being a zip file, it's been changed to a 'paint' file, thus that paint icon next to name.

Image C:
So of course when I go to open it, since it's a zip file, paint can't open it, as this message in image C confirms.

Any ideas how I can reverse/fix this? In windows7, I've have been inclined to set my computer back to the latest restore date prior to this issue, but windows 8.1, I've learned is a different species entirely.

I download and use a lot of graphics, so unzip regularly, which makes this a big issue for me.
Sorry I can't give more details of exactly what/how what happened did. I have no idea.

Oh, I was apparently always using whatever 'unzip' utility comes with windows 8.1, since I never downloaded and installed any program for that.
I also have AVG Internet security 2015, which is not included in the system info below.

Thanks for reviewing this and hopefully we can fix this.
