Touchpad not working

Hi everyone, Toshiba P70-A Satellite laptop Win 8.1.
Went into control panel-hardware and sound and it only shows usb mouse settings no pad.
Synaptic shows in programs. Why will it not work. Replies need to be not to technical please.
