Went to the dark side (Linux Mint), hated it, now want to go back to Win 8.1. I have a new copy labeled "Windows 8.1 Full Version" I just bought from a local store. Also have a Linux LiveDVD from which I originally installed Linux. This is not a dual-boot situation; Linux is all I have.
No matter what I try, the machine won't boot from the Windows DVD. The instructions that came with it are useless: "Insert disc, follow the steps. If you don't see the steps, go to Windows Explorer and select DVD Setup." No can do - no steps, and Linux boots as usual. Don't have a DVD Setup choice; the DVD has a setup.exe file but trying to run it gives an error that "Windows 8.1 can only be installed from Windows 7." Do I have the wrong DVD? Linux forums are thus far no help since there are so many different versions of it.
