I have a spiffy new windows 8.1 desktop, and I've had several issues with installing programs on it. I'm trying to install some old games on it (mathblaster and simfarm specifically, but others have done it too), and even when using the actual disk that came with the game Windows converts all the *.exe files to read *.ex_
I've attached a pic to show what I mean.
The disk is in the drive and is what is selected--I know for a fact that the files on the original game CD-rom are NOT corrupted, so what gives? When I first put the disk in and it did the "autorun" thing it told me to try compatibility mode, but I don't have a compatibility mode option either. How do I get Wiindows to properly read the exe files and then give me an option for compatibility mode? I need these games to work--that was the deal for giving up the old XP machine.
This is so very irritating, so thanks for your help!
