windows 8.1

I am writing this from a different computer because the computer I am inquiring about has had a total crash. I have an HP Pavilion that is running either Windows 8 or 8.1. I purchased it about a month ago. It is a refurbished but not by HP, but by a company that specializes in refurbishing and selling computers. A couple of weeks ago the 8.1 download was added to my computer. Had to leave on a long trip and left the computer on to download 8 .1. Now, I cannot get the computer to start up. When I hit the power button the HP symbol comes up for about a minute and then the screen does to black.

I did not make a rescue disk prior to this. I downloaded Windows 8.0 enterprise, and made a rescue disk. The rescue disk gets the computer to the various support options and none of them work. I tried to install 8.0 enterprise but it says that there is a partition missing. One thing that I did notice is that there are no longer seems to be a boot sector or boot partition. The master boot record appears to be fine.

Also depending on what diagnostics I run, sometimes the hard drive appears to be formatted in NTFS or in GPT. I also attempted to download and ISO to make a rescue disk for Windows 8 and 8.1, but download utility said that my product key was not a retail product key.

All the problems occurred when the spirit 8.1 download occurred, I have exhausted all the options I know to turn back to 8.0. Before the final crash, I did notice that my system restore point had disappeared.

I think what I need is a Windows 8.0 disk to do a repair or even to a complete new installation. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions I have. Thank you for your time
