I have been having this problem for over a month now. I wish I could remember exactly when it started.
Sound comes and goes from all of my browsers (IE, Mozilla Firefox & Google Chrome). Also when I try to play music from my usb drive the xbox music site tells me that "Can't Play. If the problem continues, bisit www.xbox.com/support to check for guidance" and lists a code "0x00d11cd(0x8000ffff) and the Media players suddenly has a problem playing my cd and must shut down.

I have tried the Chrome://plugins fix. It only works after I have restarted my laptop, Then the problem will return later that day, or sometimes the next day, but always after my laptop has been turned off.

I Googled the problem and found some posts about it from 2 years ago. I found a post at a site similar to this one where 1 fix was available. I tried it and sound was restored. Until the next day when my laptop would not start up even in safe mode. I decided to see what would happen if I removed the battery, wait a bit and put it back in. Lo, and behold, it worked. I had sound that stayed after the laptop was shutdown over night and restarted, for the next 2 days. and day 3 Google Chrome needed to update. Once again the sound problem returned. Now every day I must either use that fix (and restart my laptop) or use the chrome://plugins method (and restart my laptop)to have sound. Needless to say this is causing frustration for me and driving me bonkers:p anyway that site is not really offering any help so this time I Googled tech help sites and found this site. I am in hopes that someone here can help me.
I have looked at other sound posts here, but they did not seem to be quite the same, so Here's hoping that I'm not just doing a repeat that $#%#%$&^'s everyone off:)

I just got through going to the dell support site and having a full check run of my system and was told everything was great. I have automatic updates set to automatic for just about everything I can think of.

I will give thanks in advance for help with this.
