Disk Check Stuck At 100%?

Well, I've had random spikes of disk usage on my laptop since I got it a few months ago. It's just recently become troublesome, though? When it happens it causes games to crash etc. which I previously had no problems with. So maybe it isn't the culprit, but it's my first lead at least.

Anyway, so I decided to do a disk check. I have Windows 8.
I ran the check during the next restart and it got stuck at 27%.
However, after a while it broke free of that and made it to 100% complete.
But ... it's still on that? I thought it was supposed to restart the computer upon completion?
Or do I need to do that? Could it have froze or do I just need to give it more time?
It's been stuck at 100% complete for a few hours now. :(

Edit: Not sure if this helps at all, but this is the model and such.
Toshiba Satellite C55-A5300
Part No. PSCFEU-00M00G
Serial No. XD155204Q

The most I can recall right off hand was it was pretty basic with 4 GB Ram.
I forget exactly how much space, but it's probably 300 GB or close.
So not an extremely pricey computer to begin with.
I wish I could tell further specs, but I don't have that info wrote down.
Suppose that if it survives this then I'll be doing that in case I have other problems.

The disk usage spikes have been happening even since I first got the laptop.
But the game crashes started happening more recently after my visit to the UK.
My bf had gotten me an antivirus (bitdefender?) and now a game I play (aura kingdom) freezes on me.
Sometimes it will freeze the whole laptop, but not always.
