Disappearing desktop content

I rebooted my computer due to some glitches going on which happens now and then. When it came back up, which took an extra long time, my desktop files and folders were gone... other than the recycle bin and one csv file and one doc file. They were not in my recycle bin. I rebooted again and it came up perfectly. But still no files.

I've been running anti virus and malware tools as I know the drill on that. So far its clean as can be. Is there some hidden place I'm unaware of that it would have put these files???
