Attempting to migrate my Win 8 laptop 1TB HDD to a 160GB SSD with 4 Dell partitions in addition to the C:/ partition.
I have Acronis True Image installed, but have run into the following situation. If I attempt to do the process via cloning, the laptop will not get past the Acronis Loading screen on reboot. In order to even get to that point I must change the "UEFI mode Secure boot on" to UEFI mode, Secure boot Off". So I connected the SSD via USB connection and initialized it using Windows Disk Management, shut down and installed the SSD inside the laptop. Then I tried the recover process from an Acronis full image stored on an external USB HDD using the same USB connection.
The problem I've run into is Acronis automatically resizes the partitions proportionally which makes 2 of the Dell partitions to small for the content. Attempts to customize the partition size in Acronis results in no response when I try to change them. Resizing works OK on the C:/ partition, so I know I have adequate space to resize the Dell partitions.
Next I tried to shrink the C:/ partition closer to the actual used space. I figured 100GB would be adequate (Usage is at 64GB). That is when I found out the minimum size is a little under 500GB. I looked at a graphic representation of the drive using MYDefrag and there are a couple of cells around the 500GB location on the drive. The content is System Volume Information. Can't move them with Windows defrag or MyDefrag.
Anyone have any ideas of how I might proceed? I can post screen shots anyone would like to see.
