office 20110 with windows 8

I have been using office 2010 on windows 7 machine without a problem. I have installed windows 8 on another machine and installed office 2010 aswell but now when i open an excel sheet i get extra symbols beside the time in a drop down menu that were not there when opened in windows 7.
Anyone know why this is?
