Really confused with Windows 8

Hi. I have put together a PC for the first time. It' POSTs and All is well. I have installed a SSD 250G drive as my primary drive with windows 8.1 install. Also have a 1.0 Terbyte Hard Disk for storage. How do I make sure that all data files(downloads, applications, etc) are sent to the hard drive.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
