I have an Assus All-in-One computer, model ET2411IUKI that I purchased from MDG that will not connect to the Internet. It's set up on my desk alongside my current computer, a laptop that is connected to a Linksys voip phone adapter with router and Speedstream modem attached to the computer with an ethernet cable. I recently switched to voip so my network connection just says 'Network' and the Broadband connection message box pops up on screen every now and then saying it can't connect, but I am on the Internet.
When I detach the ethernet from the laptop and plug it into the Assus it should connect the Assus to the Internet, but it doesn't. The error message on the Assus with Windows 8 suggests that a network switch should be turned on or a cable is broken or missing.
The Assus was sent back to MDG, but they sent me the same unit back a week later telling me it does connect to the Internet and they can't fix what's not broken. My ISP tells me my Internet works, which it does for the laptop, so they can't help me with setting up the new Assus. I have called a tech at Assus who couldn't figure it out either and told me to do a refresh, which also didn't work. Of course, I've tried a different ethernet cable, but same result. Bottom line, if the Internet works on the laptop, it should just be a plug-in to work on the Assus, or so all of these experts have told me. The Assus tech said a light should come on above the ethernet connection when it's plugged in, but it doesn't and some of the error messages indicate a cable is broken. The Assus tech did not mention anything about a network switch, which would be like the one on the laptop, but did suggest that maybe the laptop is not switched off the network and is blocking the new computer...whatever that means. My next step is to get back on the phone with an Assus tech again, but thought I would try this forum. Thanks for any tips, or any help you could provide.
