Cannot run Win 8.1 setup DVD

Hi,

I am trying to install Windows 8.1 Home from DVD. The DVD boots for a minute or two and then pauses, and then quickly flashes an error message saying something like "this pc needs to reboot". This is before getting to the screen where it asks for language and keyboard.

Thinking that maybe some hardware, maybe the IDE DVD writer drive, has a problem, I switched to a IDE DVD rom which I have lying around, and I changed the IDE cable, same things happens. Then I switched to a SATA DVD writer, same problem.

So, having installed Windows 7 Enterprise Trial on that machine a few months ago, I decided to try using that DVD to see if there is any problem, and lo and behold, it got to the language and keyboard screen without any problems.

Almost giving up, I tried to install using that Windows 8.1 DVD on another machine I have lying around, and it went smoothly.

So I think there is some incompatibility problem between my Opteron PC and the setup program. Any suggestions on what to try next ? Ideally I want this Win 8,1 on my Opteron, so I am keeping the installed machine offline and not activating the product key.
