I've purchased my daughter a new windows 8 laptop. The instructions left a lot to be desired and I need to add her tiscali email account to her new computer. I understand that I have two sign on options with windows 8; 1) microsoft account sign in which will allow syncing of user profile and potentially single log ins for social apps and accounts or 2) a local account log in - without the benefit of 1.
In creating a microsoft account do I have to have one of their email addresses or is it a case of just registering online and this registration will create a portable profile?
I did manage to create a microsoft account and named it .....@tiscali.co.uk as per the email address I need to use.
I opened mail and named the outlook.com account "outlook" and added the tiscali email address and password and named this "tiscali". Therefore, there were two accounts shown when mail was opened.
I managed to send and receive test emails with the tiscali account. All in all I'm not sure whether the set up is correct. I couldn't add the tiscali account to outlook.com. I would have liked to have one email area where all accounts could be managed. I sort of guessed the tiscali incoming and outgoing server settings (I found the talktalk settings on the providers website but nothing relating to tiscali web accounts.) As I'm not sure whether the configuration I made is correct I've reverted back to a local account log in and deleted the email accounts (now none within Mail).
What I really need is a step by step instruction to the above from setting up the windows 8 user account to adding the tiscali email account and advice on the microsoft account process. Please help. Many thanks.
