Please see here for demonstration of my huge problem:

I don't THINK I can find my (major) problem elsewhere...hope I'm putting it in the right place, because I assume my laptop has the latest version of Windows. A video's worth a million words for this one.
Has anyone seen a problem like this before? My computer is once again basically unusable because this occurs at random moments, turning it off and wiping out whatever you're doing...so that it can TRY repeatedly to restart properly. It just happens endlessly. And I say "once again" because a short while ago, it had had the problem of shutting itself down consistently--but that was resolved when someone FINALLY helped me open it up and discover that the fan had been strangled by long strands of my own hair. It could barely spin, so whenever a certain temperature was reached, the computer simply winked off. WHOOPS!! But this bizarre, sudden, utterly random problem with all the pixels and colors...?! The screen just freezing up with a weird pattern all over it? I REALLY have no idea what could be causing this, nor what to do to fix it. In some ways I'm a real geek, but I do wish I could fix more of my own junk when it defies me...which happens frequently because certain technology and I just don't get along, I guess...
Question II (a different subject, sorry--am just curious/wondering): I'm a gal who still loves her cassette tapes and VHS, just got an iPod last year as a Christmas gift (which I really like, btw), and won't pretend to know exactly how the latest phones and such gadgets work. I've had a 'Smart Phone' suggested to me a few times, and I pretty much have seen anything beyond my little sliding Sprint phone (which is actually kind of a piece of garbage that sometimes doesn't work well at all, can't receive photos in messages, doesn't record video, holds a mere 69 photos, etc.) as rather useless. But I did get to thinking a little bit ago, what if there IS some perfect device available that I simply don't have yet? I wrote up a description of what that ideal object would be and figured I'd share it with folks more knowledgeable, to find out whether anything near it exists...or whether I was just being nuts and dreaming up the perfect thingamabob!
"A thin, lightweight device which combines all the functions of a computer (laptop or desktop) and a cell phone (TV would be amazing, but I'll stay realistic. I've never heard of a portable TV.) Thick rubber protective casing; outlets to plug stuff in; easy to carry and use anywhere it may be required. Can hang on strap around neck, fold up all nice and compact, maybe sit on a little platform that's suspended on shoulder/backpack straps. Does good photo/video like a camera. Easy as a comp to type and read on/watch and listen to/use generally. Doesn't have to be replaced/upgraded--is perfect as is. You transfer everything from your computer & phone to it."
