starting from scratch in Windows 8

Hi

My son has downloaded some software on our new laptop which required him to disconnect from the internet and run a script and I noticed that this turned off the virus checker/firewall etc. I decided since the laptop is new I would insert the Windows 8 recovery disk and start again, however as the hard drive is partitioned this has only wiped c: and left everything on the d: drive. How can I start again so nothing remains in my laptop?
