Hi again from a new win 8 user. Treat me gently, please...
I'm used to doing Windows Updates manually by downloading the executable files fro the Windows Update Catalog site and I would prefer to continue that practice with Win 8. Part of doing this was to have my Automatic Updates set to notify me only at which time I would go to the normal update site and hit the Custom button. I would then copy/paste the KBxxxxx numbers from the win update site into the search box on the Update Catalog site followed by downloading the executable file. Finally, I would manually install the updates at my leisure and occasionally choose not to install a given update.
With Windows 8, I can't seem to even access the normal windows update site in order to see what updates are available/recommended. So basically what I'm looking for is a way to ascertain what updates are available for my computer at any given time. Just changed the option to "Check for updates only". I'll see what that does. Notify me only doesn't seem to be there any longer.
