Solved: Why does IE open differently from Start than from Desktop?

I'm doing fine with Win 8, though I'm working from the Desktop so Start makes it an extra step to get there; or I can type Windows Key+D. I like to put shortcuts for all my working docs and stuff on the Desktop.

When I start Internet Explorer from the Desktop, it's the old way. But I noticed that when I start it from Start it's the new way. Why is this?

I also have to figure out how to use it the new way.
