Downgrading Windows 8 to Windows 7

Hi everyone

I have had Windows 8 running on my laptop for some time but I have had problems generally for a while and I would like to go back to Windows 7. Is there a documented way of doing this, as I want to transfer all of my files and (relevant) settings back across. Can it be done?
