Can I rebuild index of installed software?

I had some problems with my PC which required me to restore an earlier partition back up. That done I decided to clear out unwanted programmes and proceeded to delete about 50 that I didnt need any more.
After a restart I found that most of my programmes dissapeared from the add/remove screen and only ones I had installed recently were there. I have started to get around this by re-installing each piece of software but it is time consumng and cannot always be done because I have several give away items where the license key was only valid for the day of download so if I re-install those I usually get a later version which is no longer licensed free.

I also notice that the programmes in the list that are missing, also cannot be found by typing their name in the search box (I have Start8 so am using the windows 7 style search box). Third party uninstallers find some of the missing ones but not all of them. Belarq Advisor lists all the software including missing ones. All the programmes work OK when started from icon or exe file

It seems as if windows has somehow lost the index entries for these programmes - is there some routine that will rebuild the index (tried a system restore but that didnt do it)?
