Greetings guys,
I am in the process of updating my Samsung notebook which has become very, very slow of late.
I have been given a lot of conflicting information in recent times and was put off from doing the actual upgrade, especially after I was told-when it would have been too late- that to try and impose windows eight 64-bit over the top of Windows 7 32 bit would have crashed everything!
I already have the upgrade discs for windows version 8 64-bit Propak.
(Cleverly bought while on the special promotional discount from Microsoft) and
my original intention was simply to upgrade my Samsung to 8 GB of RAM BUT then of course found that you can not add more than 4 GB of RAM to a Windows 32-bit system!
As I understand it now, if I simply install Windows 8 32-bit it should be trouble-free, but still unable to use more than 4 GB of RAM!
AND that there is no real performance benefit in doing so. True?
So, my plan now is to simply install W8 64 Bit Pro Pak over the top of W7 32 Bit.
(Most of my programs are on Drive D: partition, so a reformat by the install should do minimal damage I hope.)
Then to add another 4 Megs Ram to at least have the modern basic minimum.
BUT, I have also been told not to, but to instead use a SSD RAM stick of 32 or 64 Meg
and that the extra 4G RAM wouldn't show any real improvement.
The System is never under any real load - no games, no movies, no maths. The only real hogs are Firefox and MSMPENG.exe . Usually CPU is 15%, RAM 52%, SWP 49%
Being in the land of Oz (Australia) my Net connection is always very bad, atrocious at peak demands and does seem to choke the whole system, but not sure how....
Any advice appreciated - especially newby-warnings(!) but I can't see any way around upgrading to 64Bit.
Thanks in advance,
:confused::confused::confused::confused:
