Finally got around to upgrading my wife's laptop from the CP version of Win8 to the full version (she was tired of it rebooting every hour on her!).
She didn't have anything on the laptop that needed to be saved, so I just went with the install. The install only gave me an option to "Not Save Anything", which I was planning on doing anyway. After the install and the first round of updates, I checked the C: drive to see how much space was left (there was plenty), and I noticed a "Windows.Old" folder.
I checked out the folder, and noticed it was a backup of the stuff Windows told me it wasn't going to back up. No big deal, I just go to control panel and run the "Uninstall previous OS" line from Add/Remove Programs. Problem is - it wasn't there. And it wasn't under "Additional Windows Features" either.
So I began the task of deleting the folder. Come to find out, it wouldn't even "see" most of the stuff in this folder, due to ownership permissions. So I take ownership of the entire folder, delete again, take ownership and un-set read only for what remained, and then it finally deleted the entire folder.
Now I still have the ~WINDOWS.~BT (or however that's spelled) folder, but it's hidden, so no chance of my wife seeing it, and there's no need to delete it just yet, as there's plenty of space on the hard drive.
Question is this.... Why did the "Uninstall Previous OS" not show up? Any ideas?
