First question: If one installs Windows 8 from a download vs a disk, does it make a difference?
So, today, I decided I wanted to upgrade to Windows 8. Used a downloaded installer, no disk. So, i downloaded and began to install it. Uninstalled the conflicting programs, restarted, and continued with the installation. Now, at the point where there is the startup screen of windows 8 (at least, i assume it as such: a blue window thing in the place where the usual windows logo is), it says something like "initializing windows 50%" or starting windows or something to that effect. it skips to 75, and then a dialogue box pops up, saying that something went wrong with configuration, and thus we need to restart. So i did that. then it moves on, same logo, only now it says something about doing something to drive X: in the text below it. I'm sorry, but I forgot what it was. It was something like "reparing" or "recovering", or something techy like that. Anyway, it takes a fairly long time to get to one percent, maybe thirty seconds or a minute. So I went to do something else. Can't back about two hours later, computers all black except for the cursor. Now, starting up, it uses the Windows 7 logo with the balls crashing into each other and saying "starting windows". After it does that, the screen goes completely black, like "off" black, (it usually lacks a bit before going to the login screen, right?), and then ot briefly flashes white before going into "on, but dark" screen, with only the cursor.
I've tried to start it in safe mode, doesn't work.
Can anyone help?
