Updates config problem

I have just bought a new computer with W8.

I am having a problem with Windows Updates.

Nearly everyday either on Shut Down or when starting the computer I get the following message:
Installing Windows Updates -- it goes up to 15% then I get another message

Failure to configure Windows Updates
Preparing to retry

It starts again but again goes up to 15% then yet another message
Reverting Changes

Eventually the computer then restarts.

I have gone to search and typed Windows Updates then clicked on settings and looked in View Updates History.

There must be about 40 files there that are listed as Failed.
All are security updates.

Can anyone please help? - What is causing this problem and how to resolve it.
