Windows 8 on Dell XPS 2720 (Mid 2013), Service Tag 6DJ7TX1
The computer currently has two drives, a 250-gig mSATA which is blank and a 2TB mechanical drive on which Windows is installed. I want to install Windows 8 clean on the mSATA and make the 2TB a backup drive.
When booting from the original Dell-branded Windows 8 DVD in the internal DVD drive, the installation process starts and then presents a message that I need a special driver. I have no clue about that driver and find no help on the Dell site. Microsoft.com says I have bad media. I tried from another media, a known-good and also original Dell DVD and same result.
I connected an external DVD drive to a USB port and booted from that. The installation starts and then presents a message that there are no drives on the system. Sure enough, the window from which I am supposed to select a drive is empty.
This original Dell-branded, W8 DVD is known to be good as I have used it several times to install on other Dell systems.
