Hi folks
I had some kind of disk failure about 6 weeks ago. (On cold start-up, the system displayed Damaged / Diagnosing / Repairing disk system messages). Repair seemed to work okay (and the system has been in use regularly since), except for 3 things:
1) I had lost all the tiles from my Windows 8.1 Start screen, I always default to the regular desktop, so that wasn't too serious and I rebuilt the tiles I need.
2) I couldn't get a right-click menu on the Window button, e.g., to get to the Control panel or Run command. Again I solved this with a bit of research, by copying the default WinX folder to my own profile folder. All good now.
3) Most seriously, I have not since then been able to install Windows Updates. Usually Windows Updates are installed automatically and at system Restart. My McAfee software takes care of all other updates.
I have run the Windows Update troubleshooting utility, which says it's found and repaired a problem, but the system still fails to install any updates.
I have some issues with Wi-Fi DNS, which I wondered might be the problem but when this is working and Windows seems to be able to complete the Download(s) the update(s) then fail. I have tried doing updates one at a time and in batches but they all seem to fail.
The result of my own investigation and troubleshooting is that the Windows Update history log only shows updates in the last week. Current 'Windows Update History' screenshot is attached.
Can anyone advise what I might be able to do to fix this?
Thanks
