This started yesterday after a hang, and having exhausted my searching abilities.. here I am.
As I said, my computer hung yesterday, and I forced it to power off, and ever since Windows 8.1 refuses to boot; I get the to the windows logo screen with the spinning circles, and it freezes right as it finishes with that(occasionally hanging half-way through fading the logo).
These symptoms occur:
- Normal boot.
- Automated system repair.
- USB recovery stick.
- USB install stick.
- DVD install disc.
This occurs both on my current drive and a new, clean one I just got today, as well with no HDD and just trying to boot off an install media.
Plugging in a HDD with an existing install of XP boots into safe mode with no issues; I didn't try otherwise.
I have tried running one stick of RAM at a time, with no change.
I read that sometimes Windows has issues with mouse/keyboard plugged into USB 2.0 or 3.0 causing issues, and I have tried various arrangements with that with no change.
Thank you in advance; this has stumped everyone I've talked to about it so far.
EDIT: I have also tried soft-resetting while booting up to force it to do a normal, non-'hybrid' boot, with no change.
