For two months or so now my laptop screen has occasionally been going black but still be running. Putting my computer to sleep and waking it up makes the screen show up again temporarily but if I do that immediately after a 'crash' it tends to do it again within a minute or so. It's recently been getting a lot worse - it often occurs within minutes of boot up now. I'm in the process of doing the typical troubleshooting procedures for this (booting a different OS, plugging into a different screen) but I have a very strong suspicion that the issue is with my GPU.
My CPU can run very hot, in the 75 to 80 °C range. I (naively) assumed that this wouldn't affect my GPU since it generally runs at around 60°C but all signs seem to point that way so far.
Occasionally when the screen goes black a white bar that stretches horizontally flickers for a bit at the top of my screen before the screen goes fully dark. Does that confirm any specific problem on my end?
