I am using WinRAR to backup data from a variety of XP machines based on directories and filetypes. The backup process works fine and writes everything to a file nicely.
The problem is when I am trying to edit these files to restore just the data that I need (ie, removing unneed profiles, etc). I am able to edit the file using WinRAR, however it seems that every time I delete a file from the archive, the entire archive is recompressed. As these are large files requiring a fair amount of editing, this is taking an extremely long time.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to either disable this constant recompression so that is just recompresses once at the end when I save it? Or, alternatively, does anyone have a better method of editing RAR files?
