Solved: How do I use VLC on Windows 8 Home?

Hiya

We have a laptop with Windows 8 home, and found out that you can't play dvd's :(

So, have downlaoded VLC, as most people say its the one, but it still doesn't work.

Read that going to the Store will have the codecs, but all I have in there under updates is Skype, Suduko, and 2 others (at work, memory like a sieve)

How can we play dvd's on the Windows? Its so annoying that for a week I can't paly them, but give me Windows 98 or later, and I'm fine.
