Error Message is irritating

Got a new PC this week running under Windows 8. Everything seemed to be working well until today when an Error message popped-up on the desktop screen after booting up, which read: "Unable to find the installation file. Make sure you insert the Installer CD into your CD drive. Do not click Cancel as this abort the installation and cause problems." All the programs I have loaded onto the new PC seem to be operating without issue. The Error message does not refer to which program might be at fault or whether it's a Windows 8 issue. The message has two button options ... Retry and Cancel. Retry does nothing, even when I try putting some of the program installer CDs in the DVD/CD drive. Pressing Cancel has alarming consequences, as this has already caused the PC to fail completely, supplying only a blue screen with the phrase "Cannot find an operating system". However, turning off and rebooting returns the PC to normal operation again, albeit with the Error message on the screen. There must be a way of finding out what the Error message relates to so the problem can be resolved - or a way to delete the message and stop it from returning to the desktop screen. Any help/advice would be much appreciated. I have tried checking the PC with anti-virus, malware and system checkers, which resulted in no identifiable issues.
