Audio Service is not running

I was in the middle of watching a video on my laptop to my tv and my computer shut down. On restart my sound did not work and there was a red circle with a white cross next to the speaker in the lower right hand corner. I tried to turn on the audio service and the troubleshooter came up and then got an error message that one or more audio services are not working. Tried to click on the link for further help and control panel comes up and just sits there, nothing happens.

Running Acer laptop V3-571-6847
Windows 8.1

I've tried reinstalling driver no luck. Tried testing speakers and no sound comes out.

Any help would be appreciated.
