Wi-Fi Connection- Help please?

I've had this Dell computer with Windows 8 for about 2 and a half years and it ran perfectly fine. A few months ago, my computer updated to Windows 8.1 (If I remember correctly) and its entire wifi capabilities shut down. I am connected through an ethernet cable right now, but would like some mobility on my computer. In the bottom right of my screen, there is a connections icon, to let me get online. If clicked, it opens up the side screen. It used to display all my wifi options. Now, I dont even have an option but to use my ethernet cable. It doesn't show anything but a connect a cable message. I've tried so many things to fix the issue and I hope I've given enough information on my predicament. Please help as soon as possible!
