outlook express

I had my xp laptop crash, I was able to save all my outllok express contacts to a folder named addressbook. I did a select all in contacts, then copied to new folder it is not useable in my thunderbird program. is there anyway to get this folder converted to use on my 8.1 computer? I have years of contacts that I would hate to lose.
