Desktop shuts down randomly, but only when using Windows 8.

I finally got around to installing Windows 8 on a second partition on my media PC and installed some basic programs on it. I mostly used it just for basic web browsing for a while, but when I installed chrome on it to try out youtube in 60FPS it abruptly shut down. No "updating" screen, no "shutting down" screen, no error messages, the only thing out of the ordinary is that the fan will speed up for 1-2 seconds before everything cuts off. So I tried watching the video again to see if I could reproduce the issue, and sure enough, anytime I get about 2-5 minutes (sometimes way less) into a 60FPS youtube video (other youtube videos play just fine) my computer blinks off.

My first thought was that it was some kind of graphical issue, so I tried updating catalyst control center to a beta version. It did not affect the issue. I tried running furmark on it for about 15 minutes to see if that would get it to shut off, but it did not. However, I also tried running dolphin (the wii emulator) and was able to reproduce the issue consistently. This issue also happened once or twice while regular web browsing.

I ruled out overheating or PSU overload, because this same setup could run Battlefield 4 on ultra for hours and never shut down.

I tried reproducing the issue in my Windows 7 installation, but I cannot. 60FPS youtube videos and dolphin run just fine. This led me to think that the problem was caused by some kind of software issue in my Windows 8 setup. Since I didn't have much invested in that setup, I went ahead and formatted the partition and installed Windows 8 fresh. The very first thing I did before installing any other software on it was install dolphin and run it. The computer shut off, just like usual.

I ran the Microsoft RAM test tool and didn't get any errors.

At this point I am stumped. Any ideas as to what could be wrong? Are there any diagnostic programs I could use to get a better idea?
