Solved: PC shuts down unexpectedly

On December 10, there was about 20+ windows update. After that day my PC has been shutting off on its own, usually during sleepmode. When it is sleeping at times the keyboard or mouse will not wake up the pc, making me have to manually shut down. I have seeked help from HP and they say it is software related and that my insurance was only for hardware and that I have to pay a whole different bill to get it fixed. I would like to know if there is anyway to get this fixed without giving them more money?
