Would like to sort out a bit of a dilemma. I just bought a laptop with Windows 8.1. I know that it comes with Defender which is supposed to be an antivirus, firewall and anti malaware. However, it came with Mcaffee for a month's trial and the salesman said that Defender is just a firewall and I need an antivirus program, so I should purchase Mcaffee as well. I am confused after reading different blogs and would like your always very helpful advice.
I noticed that the antivirus and firewall is protected by Mcaffee and defender is stopped. I do not want to purchase Mcaffee,
The question is if I uninstall Mcaffee within the free trial, would Defender be adequate to protect the laptop ? Or would I have to install an antivirus program (eg Avast) and let defender be the firewall..
I bought this Laptop for my grand daughter's birthday and have a few days to set it up for her as W8 is very new to me.
