Windows Movie Maker Error 0x80004005?

A few months ago I got a new laptop (MSI GE Series GE70 Apache Pro-012) and when trying to run the Windows Live Movie Maker that came with it, there's a flash shown on the screen as if the program's about to open, then an error message pops up with the text:

Sorry, Movie Maker had to shut down unexpectedly. Please restart it, and then try again. (Error: 0x80004005)

I have tried:
*Rebooting the computer
*Uninstalling Movie Maker & Photo Gallery then reinstalling
*Updating graphics drivers (NVIDIA GTX 860m)
etc, etc.

to no avail. I couldn't find any good answers when googling it, and while some people offered general fixes like running the troubleshooter, they still didn't work.

I've never run Movie Maker before on this laptop without an error, but shouldn't it be able to work as it came on the computer originally?

Thank you if anybody has any fixes! I have been trying to solve this for months!
