new hard drive for HP Envy 6-1129wm

I got a new 500gb hard-drive for my laptop and am wondering how to install windows 8 on it since I cant install any other operating system. Would making a recovery disc work?

I read online I can reinstall windows 8 fron a USB? If so how do you do that?

I do have blank dvd's as well, 4.7gb for each disc.
