Start Problem

Hi guys,

When ever I log into windows 8 my screen goes purple and says start. However, none of my apps appear and then my desktop randomly opens. When ever i open the search bar by moving the cursor to the top right, it says that no apps can be searched.

All help would be appreciated, thanks :)
