My old Compaq NX9110 (XP Pro) died from a coffee spill. Through an AOL service program, I got a Gateway NE56R45u with Windows 8 as a replacement.

Managed to get rid of Norton's and turn on Windows Defender, transfer my IE8 Favorites to IE10.ny other suggestions
Gateway does list upgrade to 8.1 as an option. Should I go ahead and do this now?
Any other suggestions to make this transition less painful?
