There have been many posts regarding Win 8 intermittent connection. After all I've read and experienced it seems there is a basic Win 8 problem.
In my case, I have a cable modem into a Linksys wifi/ethernet hub. I have other computers connected to this hub, both wifi and ethernet, plus other wifis such as iphone, TV, etc. Everything works fine, internet is available 100% except for the problem child, a new HP Pavilion running Win 8.
I experienced this problem immediately when new, took the machine back to BestBuy, their Geeks said they couldn't find anything so I demanded a new machine. This new one has the exact same problem. Internet comes and goes randomly, when listening to web radio it often drops out several times a minute then drops back in again. Or sometimes it is no go for an hour or more.
Of course I've tried the normal problems, exchanged ethernet cables, ran the problem child on wifi, and reset several things suggested on other threads. No go.
Is this a basic problem deep in the Win 8 innards? Does anyone know for sure?
