Hey all.
I'll run through everything that's happened in order but I'm relying on memory for some bits so they may be a little vague.
My computer. Asus main board with 8gb of ram and an Intel i3 CPU. 60gb Vertex 2 Cdrive, 2TB internal storage drive and 250 gb usb portable drive. Running Windows 7 pro 64
Downloaded W8 pro upgrade from MS for £24.99, saved it to my desktop and a flash drive.
Started to install W8 from the desktop saved copy.
It scanned my system and gave me 3 incompatible programs.
Comodo suite (uninstalled, downloaded W8 version and saved it to storage drive)
Bluetooth driver (unimportant, just uninstalled)
Intel(r) network driver (downloaded W8 version, saved to storage drive then uninstalled)
Went back to Windows installation and clicked restart.
Once it had restarted it asked me if I'd like to continue the upgrade, I clicked yes.
Input the activation key emailed to me and set location to UK.
It started installing but stopped to tell me it needed a driver to carry on but didn't tell me which driver. I could input the correct media or browse to the driver but, not knowing what the driver was for this wasn't an option.
All I could do was click cancel and restart the pc.
The state I'm at now is if I power up with the flash drive inserted it will boot to the W8 copy on it. I have to put my key in but it then tells me to remove the drive, restart and boot to the hard drive installation.
If I do as requested and remove the flash drive before rebooting I end up with a black screen telling me to insert bootable media and press any key.
My SSD is now not in the listing in the BIOS. It's like it doesn't exist.
This has totally thrown me. I googled many pages before deciding to do this and one thing they all agreed on was how easy it was (for once) to do the upgrade.
Any ideas as to what's happening would be very well received.
