Solution to missing cursor/pointer

Hi all,

I've had a problem with our Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows 8.1 where the cursor randomly disappeared while my son was using the laptop. I've seen lots of posts giving solutions where people change settings, run troubleshooters etc, but it was a much more simple (and embarrassing) answer in our case and might be worth people trying before they start on the complicated stuff...

The F5 button is configured to hide and show the cursor/pointer. The function keys are now set up to be used in conjunction with the Fn key, so if you are used to clicking on (for instance) F5 to show your PowerPoint, you will inadvertently hide your pointer.

Yes, really simple but it took ages to work it out so I hope this post will save someone a bit of time if they find themselves in the same situation.
